MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Little Gem'
A dwarf selection of this magnificent evergreen, suitable for small gardens. The glossy green leaves are bronzy when young with beautiful brown felting to the underside. Lemon scented creamy white flowers through the summer until the first frost. Due to its less vigorous growth, this cultivar flowers from the earliest age. It is expected to reach 2-3m in height.

MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Main Street'
The name alludes to the habit of this one - being upright and compact almost to the point of fastigiate. Ideal where space is limited. The highly perfumed creamy white flowers are complemented by mid-green glossy foliage. Tolerant of most normal soils and conditions, but generally flowers best when grown against a sunny wall, sheltered from cold winds in the winter. Surprisingly tolerant of wind. 8m.

NEW MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Monlia'
A vigorous grower of pyramidal habit which is more tolerant of wind, so a good choice if you wish to grow it free-standing rather than against a wall in the traditional manner. The thick leathery green leaves are richly felted beneath, whilst the creamy white flowers in summer are also larger than average. 8m.

NEW MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Overton'
This neat and tidy grower is more tolerant of wind, so a good choice if you wish to grow it free-standing rather than against a wall in the traditional manner. The flowers are an ivory white in colour, produced over a long period in summer. 8m.

MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Russet'
As is typical of all the modern selections, they exhibit excellent hardiness whilst not growing vast and perhaps most importantly, flower from a young age. This one is probably my favourite, due to the rich brown indumentum ("fur") on the underside of the glossy green leaves. Lovely white, spicy scented flowers in summer. Larger plants available - some tree like to grow freestanding, others branched from low down to grow against a wall. Please state a preference when ordering.

MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Samuel Sommer'
An excellent selection noted for its extreme hardiness. Fortuitously that is not at the expensive of flower - in either profusion or beauty. As with all the modern selections, it flowers from a relatively young age and doesn't get excessively large.

MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'St Mary'
Although only subtly different, this selection seems to be the toughest. It flowers from an extremely early age but most importantly seems very happy to grow through adversity! It is also my choice where it is to be free standing (as opposed to growing against a wall) since it naturally forms a tidy symmetrical shape.

NEW MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Symmes Select'
This is a more compact form with distinctive undulating margins to the dark green leaves. These also have a dark brown indumentum on their undersides. The flowers are typical of the species. Tolerant of most normal soils and conditions, but generally flowers best when grown against a sunny wall, sheltered from cold winds in the winter. 6m.

NEW MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Treyvei'

MAGNOLIA grandiflora 'Victoria'
A very hardy selection from British Columbia, with glossy dark green foliage and heavily felted beneath. Distinctive red sepals and a bronzy tint to the young  growth distinguish it from the others.
